Raffle prize 'Barry' the David Brown heading to the Newark Vintage Tractor & Heritage Show

After entering a raffle held by Yorkshire farmers and content creators the Blakey Brothers back in August, Karen Mudford had no idea she would then become the proud owner of a 1961 David Brown 950.

Now, since documenting her journey with the tractor on social media, Karen is taking the machine she affectionately calls Barry to the Newark Vintage Tractor & Heritage Show on 7-8 November.

Originally purchased for the export market, Barry was initially destined for Karachi, Pakistan, and fitted with tropical radiator modifications to suit a South Asian climate. But, for reasons unknown, the order was cancelled and Barry was sent to a dealership in Malton, North Yorkshire, where it was used for the majority of its working life.

Now under Karen’s ownership, Barry has found new life as the star of Karen’s Facebook page ‘Later Better Than Never’, which has amassed over a thousand followers.

Having not come from an agricultural background, Barry is the first tractor Karen has owned, although not the first she has driven or worked on, as her partner owns tractors.

Since August, Karen and Barry have driven in a number of charity road runs and appeared at events across the country.

This will be not only the first time that Karen is exhibiting at the Newark Vintage Tractor & Heritage Show, but the first time she has attended it at all.

“I decided to exhibit Barry at the show because he’s getting quite well known in the community, and this would be a great place for people to come and see him,” says Karen.

“There’s a general interest in him thanks to social media and his connection to the Blakey Brothers, and after having done charity road runs and even farmed with him, I thought it’d be good to show him off.

“It’s all been just a big adventure really!”

The Blakey Brothers will be at the show as very special guests, unveiling a striking grey and gold Ferguson FE-35 in the George Stephenson Exhibition Hall at 11am on Saturday 7 November.

The iconic Fergie will then stay on display at Newark Showground for the rest of the weekend, courtesy of John Plowright and the Friends of Ferguson Heritage.

The event is part of six major anniversaries in the Ferguson and Massey Ferguson story, spanning from the Ferguson Model A in 1936 through to the 3000 Series in 1986.
